Edin's First Photo Shoot

Our camera bit the dust. What a dismal detection it was when the camera shop diagnosed it with several hundred dollars worth of damage. We're not going to repair it... mostly because we'd rather invest the money in an upgrade. I purchased the camera when I took my first photography class sophomore year of college... and it has grown to become part of our little family. Super cheesy, I know... but I am not ashamed at how attached I became to this camera!

The timing on our camera dying was really unfortunate. I mean really, right before our first child is born? Luckily we have some great friends with great talents that own great toys... like our friend Bri! Bri feels our pain and is so generous, kind, pretty (you're reading this right, Bri?) to lend us her Canon 30D. Here she is during our super gnarly tailgating fiesta at last year's Spain vs. U.S. soccer game.

The photo does not do justice to her weirdness or awesomeness.

Our friends are beautiful... once you get past the strange oddities that God endowed our circle of friends with (I am ending this sentence with a preposition... don't judge).

Brett and I have been wanting to take some newborn photos of Edin so upon receiving the borrowed camera, we immediately went to work! However, the shoot was cut short (extremely short) by an unhappy baby. Here are some photos that Edin allowed us to take of him. He gave us about sixty seconds before he decided the photo shoot was over and the screaming began... we will try again!

I love his wrinkles.

And so it goes...

Hopefully the next photo shoot will last a little bit longer!

It's Friday

It snowed last night!
Our little family spent the morning drinking green tea and listening to Iron And Wine.
I love these mornings.

On another note
Really enjoying this 100% Alpaca Hat from Holstee. Each hat is handcrafted by women in Peru.

Wonder

The world is so full of wonder.
Edin loves looking out the window, especially following his stretches in the morning.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free. — Wendell Berry

happy valentine's day!

Today is Valentine's Day.
Edin is wearing one of his daddy's old outfits and it is quite cozy.
Brett and I aren't crazy about Valentine's, but we do love to celebrate love.
We shared Valentines' mimosas for breakfast, yummmm!!
Mimosas are just plain delicious.

And look at this handsome fella... a stud just like his daddy!

Week 1

Leaving the hospital was quite surreal.
... we really have a newborn son!

Brett pulled the car up and loaded it with a medley of gifts, cards, paperwork, bags, and the stash of newborn essentials our incredible nurses stocked us with.
With the car seat safely buckled in to place, we looked at each other and smiled.
Homeward bound.

Our first week at home with Edin was a delightful yet exhausting one.
Lucky for us, our family and friends blessed us with meals and helping hands.
We are so thankful.

Edin has quite the morning stretch routine.

We have been waiting for our little bear to arrive all year.
I traded in my coffee habit for prenatal vitamins
while brett immediately began creating playlists to accompany every moment of our babe's life.
These playlists are quite lovely and include the following, to name a few:

Fionn Regan - 100 Acres of Sycamore
Andrew Bird - Useless Creatures
Bon Iver
Alexi Murdoch
Iron & Wine - The Creek Drank the Cradle
M83 - Digital Shades
Feist - The Reminder

31 Weeks

after 41 weeks, we finally met the little man our hearts have been waiting for... and he's a stud.
